Knit in the round, this beret uses a simple repeating pattern to create a fun twisting effect. Two strands of yarn are knit at once for a chunky finish, which also opens up a world of colour combinations! This beret is one size fits all with a stretchy ribbed brim measuring 40 – 58 cm. You can view the pattern at the link below or download the pdf with the ‘download’ button.

THIS PATTERN IS CURRENTLY IN THE TEST KNITTING STAGE.

The Wild Peacock Shawl

The Wild Peacock shawl is knit from the Wild Swan Shawl by Anne-Lise Maigaard and Nim Teasdale

The Wild Peacock Shawl

Start Date: 2 October 2021

Completion Date: 16 October 2021

Yarn used: Schoppel Lace Flower 2ply – 1200m “mittelland”

Pattern: Wild Swan by Anne-Lise Maigaard and Nim Teasdale

The Wild Peacock shawl (named for its colours) is one of my favourite things I’ve ever knitted! This is something I say after everything I knit but I think in this case it may be true. I knitted it for my mum for her birthday.

This was my second lace shawl, knit after the Dragon of the Mist Shawl by the Crazy Lace Lady. I was expecting another month of tedious knitting and losing my place in the pattern, but instead found a simple charted pattern which felt relatively intuitive and had a lot of repeats – meaning I didn’t have to check each stitch as I completed it! This knit up so quickly, and watching the yarn change colours as I worked was so fun as well. I loved each step of the gradient.

Schoppel Wolle Lace Flower is the most expensive and probably fanciest yarn I’ve ever used. It is so soft, and the gradient is glorious. I’ve still got lots left over for another project! I erroneously listened to Google about yarn cakes and centre pull. This yarn was too fine to pull from the centre and it ended up creating so many knots. Someone has said this is due to the way it was spun, pulling it out backwards makes the fibres all stick together and knot up. Regardless, I’ve learned my lesson!

Before and after blocking – I love to see how it grows! After the picture was taken I did notice and correct some of the inconsistencies in my blocking.
